The Beginning
This is a picture was taken on the 2018 Myanmar trip to Yangon showing of the small amount of glasses we had for the first monastery. In this monastery we were visited by around 300 kids who all needed to be checked to see if they had issues reading or seeing. We only had around 60 glasses to give. Normally this would be worrisome but not to the extent of panic, until the new volunteers were informed that in Myanmar, many do not believe children or teens need glasses. This is because in a third world country, glasses are seen as a necessity to adults not kids. By the end of the trip we had only a small amount of glasses left for the third monastery and had to adopt the phrase "first come, first serve." By collecting glasses, I hope to help kids who have been looked past due to their age. |
